The death toll in the adulterated toddy case in Hyderabad has risen to nine, following the death of 42-year-old P. Gangamani, who succumbed to complications at 9.04 p.m. on Monday (July 14, 2025). She was among the 23 patients admitted to Gandhi Hospital after consuming allegedly adulterated toddy.

Of the 16 persons currently undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital, two patients, G. Bethaiah and B. Laxmaiah, were discharged, while another, Ch. Satyanarayana, left the hospital against medical advice. No new admissions have been recorded since 1 p.m. on July 12, said a source at the hospital.

At Gandhi Hospital, four are in a critical condition, including 61-year-old Vadla Sugunamma, of Hydernagar; 47-year-old K. Nirmala; 55-year-old B. Latha from Kukatpally and 26-year-old Manjala Swapna of Jagadgirigutta. They were placed on ventilator support, oxygen therapy and inotropic medication.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued on Monday (July 14, 2025) by Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), it was stated that 36 patients were admitted in total following consumption of adulterated toddy. Of these, 23 are currently undergoing treatment. Thirteen patients were discharged in the last three days, and seven others were declared fit for discharge on Monday. A hospital spokesperson said a multispecialty team was monitoring the condition of the remaining patients.

One patient was admitted to NIMS on Sunday with diarrhoea and low blood pressure. She had earlier received treatment for a week at a private facility in Kukatpally and is now under observation.

The Excise Department and police are continuing their investigation into the source of the toddy. Those arrested in connection with its supply and distribution are being questioned.
