Two schoolgirls sustained serious burn injuries after being allegedly set on fire by three unidentified individuals in the Boiabara area of Odisha’s Puri district on Friday, said officials.
According to local sources, the incident occurred while the girls were walking home from school. Three individuals reportedly approached them and attempted to set them on fire.
Nearby residents intervened quickly, managed to put out the flames, and took the injured girls to the nearest medical facility for treatment.
Both victims are currently under medical care and reported to have suffered significant burn injuries, according to reports.
The Balanga Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.
As of now, the identity of the accused is not confirmed, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Authorities have stated that further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
